Double implied facepalm |
Woohoo, the episode I have been looking forward to for two weeks now, Saori, Kirino and Kuroneko in maid uniforms, moe-overload! That is what I would've liked to say, but I got a whole lot more than what I expected from this episode.
First off, let me get the "bad" outta the way. The episode is again disjointed and the two events appeared very fragmented even though they should be in a single arc. Kirino sees Minami, Kirino gets jealous, Kirino goes tsun tsun, Kirino screwed up Kyosuke, Kyosuke gets mad, the gang helps Kirino, Kyosuke goes to party, Kyosuke gets mad, Kirino and Kyosuke made up. This is suppose to be the rough chain of events that happened, or at least what I deduced from the episode. However, the gap between Kirino screwed with Kyosuke and the party was extremely apparent to me, the time skip and lack of explanations aside from "You have been upset since the incidient" was insufficient in tying the two events together. I felt like I was watching two episodes in one again, and it probably could've been better if it were two episodes instead of one.
Now, to the good.
Let's get the moe stuff outta the way, or else I would not be able to think straight at all. Kuroneko with neko ears and tails, one word- unfair, just like Kirino said. If I had a little sister like that I think I would've died long before, excessive nosebleed being the cause of death. Kuroneko in a neko maid outfit is simply too cute, adding on the tsundere behaviour I almost had an heart attack. Kirino's cute little sister maid appeal was also incredibly moe and the excessive dere dere in the last half of the episode has redeemed a ton of points for her. That is not to say I'm cool with her yet, she's still at negative-I-can't-count-that-high so it'll still be awhile until I'm cool with her. Saori was the biggest disappointment though, since she was still wearing her glasses. I think if she had taken off her glasses I probably would be writing this in a hospital right now getting some blood transfuse, so I guess I'm thankful to the writers for that.
As for characters themselves, Saori and Kuroneko took a backseat again since the series is near the end. It is expected though since they are only supporting characters, but I feel a little sad as they are definitely miles ahead of Kirino as far as likable-ness is concerned. Kirino, however, did not disappoint as she takes center stage again, and delivered much-anticipated dere dere mode to us vieweres. The effect was super-effective, to us and to Kyosuke, and finally our Brosuke gets what he deserved ever since the start of the series. I am a little concerned since Kirino's transformation is way to sudden and seemed forced, her demeanor was cute, no doubt, but it just seemed out of character. The girl has a severely bro-con but also tugs around a truckload of pride, so for her to go dere dere like that should have required a significant amount of reasons and motivation. I did not see any indication of that aside from "making Kyosuke a sad panda", which she does on a regular basis anyways, I guess that is also why I felt the episode was rather disjointed. Maybe they will tie the events together later on, likely not but one can only hope. The other interesting point I wanted to make was Minami, instead of being shocked and disgusted with the porn she found, which I was expecting since she seemed so traditional and pure, she actually asked if she should start addressing Kyosuke as "onii-chan". I was laughing my ass during the scene and I am unsure if I should attribute this to Minami's "I will do whatever it takes to get Kyosuke"-attitude or to actually consider Minami as closet pervert. Anyways the interaction between Brosuke and Minami is just a pleasure to watch and I hope we get to see KyoXMinaXKiri drama and some resolution in second season (if there will be one). I would be extremely disappointed if they try to rush an end to this triangle relationship in this season, as there is just not enough time.
Again, thanks to Random Curiosity for screencaps.
Finally, I'll leave you all with this:
