StarCraft II NASL Grand Finals Recap

The following is my summary of the 7-game series between oGsMC and TSLPuma in the Grand Finals of the first season of NASL:

Alright, ready or not, here we go!

Game 1
Map: Metlopolis

Spawning on close air position, MC, opted for a quick Stargate phoenix harass play. The phoenixes provided a lot of scouting info and they also sniped out quite a few medivacs from Puma, it seemed as though the "Kratos Protoss" was at the top of his game but in reality, the phoenix was unable to do much economic damage and Puma was sitting on solid macro and slowly build up his terrifying army of Bio, including many ghosts. In the inevitable engagement MC was caught out of position and had all his HT's energy zapped by one emp, and all shield lost to several other emps, resulting in free food for Puma's bio army. Game 1 goes to Puma.

Game 2
Map: The Shattered Temple

Puma takes a quick 1-0 lead in the series, and into the second game in ST. MC decided to go air tech once more and utilizes phoenixes, sadly this time he was not able to do much damage to medivacs nor economy. Puma macros up and MC macros up mineral by mineral. The game seemed extremely even until Puma launched a surprise drop on MC's main, killing off a Twilight Council right before the Charge research finishes. Using that time Puma launch his frontal attack and destroys MC's non-charge zealot/archon army. Puma takes game two.

Game 3
Map: Xel'Naga

MC down 2-0, and being down 3-0 would be detrimental to his run, so this is pretty much a must-win. MC start off normally this time, but then got another quick Stargate similar to his first two games. Instead of getting phoenixes however, he opted for a VR this time with 1 phoenix back-up. VR harass took out a supply depot and a barrack, slowing Puma considerably. MC macros and expands behind his successful harass. Then large-scale engagement comes and MC destroys Puma with excellent micro, MC takes game 3.

Game 4
Map: Backwater Gulch

Score's now 2-1 Puma. This game is pretty normal, Puma took it with superior micro.

Game 5
Map: Terminus RE

Score is now 3-1, uh-oh, upset incoming! Cross position spawn on RE, huge macro game. Nothing special happened early game, but when mid-game came everything went to hell. Puma with some excellent cloakshee and dropship micro kept MC on his heels the entire midgame, mining for MC actually stopped at 3rd base for awhile and he had his 3 gates sniped out in one drop.  Things were looking really really bad for MC but he was still macroing enough to come up with a relatively huge army. Then another harass came and he manage to snipe out both cloakshee and dropships, harass stopped for Puma and he was also behind on econ despite the excellent harass. It turns out Puma was way to engaged with the harass he forgot to make more SCVs. Anyways huge engagement between the two armies and MC laid down some key storms, while dodging emps through baiting. Puma got wtfstomped in the large engagement and MC double expanded for more econ. MC starts pulling ahead on econ despite being harass to the core early on, Puma can't keep up and loses, 3-2.

Game 6
Map: Tal'Darim Altar

Easily game of the match. Players spawn on bottom of Tal;Darim, macro game ensues. Puma goes back to insane harasses to try and keep MC at bay. This time though he was also making more SCVs so his macro was also up-to-par. His early to mid-game harass were decent (except his first one that got sniped out), and he was able to keep MC sitting near his base most of the time. However, MC starts placing obs and stalkers all over the place to spot drops. As such MC was able to anticipate drops and was chasing medivacs all over the place. Puma continues the drop harasses and MC with incredible reaction timing and position snipes out all drops with stalkers and HT feedback. MC continues to macro his army and wore down Puma, epic epic game, MC takes it, evens it at 3s.

Game 7
Map: Crevasse

If the previous two games showed how MC could micro and play under pressure from his opponent, this one is Puma's counter. Puma gets ballsy and went 15 CC. MC immediately scouted that and went 3gate pressure, and dropped 2 hidden pylons in Puma's main. Initial 3 stalkers did crappy damage overall with Puma pulling SCVs with his marines took care of it, then spotted the two pylons. Puma managed to take down the two pylons literally 2 seconds before it warpgate finished. MC then had to set up pylon outside and run in, with 3 gates he charged with 6 stalkers and failed to do much damage thanks to the bunker and SCV pulls, more stalkers warps in and more SCVs and marines get picked off but both bases still at full HP. MC tried to run his stalkers to higher ground (expansion area), but got trapped by SCVs. He managed to do more warp-ins with high ground sight before his stalkers died but failed to do any substantial damage to Puma. MC backs out and drops expo. With expo he drops a bunch more gates and tried 6-gate pressure, took out one bunker for way too much. Puma decided to counter with his larger army with ghost and army engaged in middle of the map. MC pulled an insane victory over the bigger army with ghost with his amazing micro and storm, but is still terribly behind Puma, who had dropped a third. In the end Puma's macro was too far ahead and MC couldn't win against Puma's excellent snipes and emps. Puma takes the game and the match. 4-3

Congratulation to Puma again, and if you could somehow find the replays for these games, sit through them because most of them are just legend...

...wait for it...

...dary, YAR!!

Edit: Forgot to mention this little tidbit, Puma will use that $50k USD he just won on...skin care. Yes fellas, skin care, 50k, wrap that around your mind.
