GSL Pre-season 2 Results!

Don't read on if you don't want to spoiler it.

Final Score: NesTea: 4 BoxeR: 3

I have not watched the games yet, but I did read about the final score, as well as the strategy used in each game, from this thread, courtesy of Hipsv:

Game 1: Shakuras Plateau Foxer opens up 2 rax at his natural ramp, Nestea 14 hatches, Foxer runs his first two marines and pulls most of his SCV's. Nestea pops 6 lings and pulls a ton of workers tries to build a spine crawler but loses it to SCV surround, loses most of his workers but the lings manage to hold this push.

Foxer is ahead 1 SCV after the push and retreats 3 marines running back, keeps muling and gets about 12 marines and pushes with all his SCV's again, Nestea forced to make lings from natural but most get sniped by marines on the way up. Has to pull all his drones and loses everything GG's out

Game 2: Lost temple - Nestea goes 16 hatch, Foxer opens up Thor drop, he gets 2 thors to Nestea's natural and loses the hatch and with a thor drop on the main sniping the queens, but loses his thors and to magic box + ling surround. Nestea takes 2 hatches one being in the 3'oclock position which isn't scouted for a while. Nestea tech swaps from muta ling to baneling roach and manages to pull ahead a bit.

With a battle near the north Xel'Naga watch tower Nestea makes a blunder and hits a thor with a huge amount of banelings turning the tide of the battle and losing his lead. Foxer then makes a good with Thor/Marine/Marauder/Medivac combo and scouts the 3'oclock expo. He pulls his army back after its not doing well and does a drop on this 3oclock expo and kills it, but loses all his army minus the medivacs.

Foxer then takes the gold after repelling muta's chasing his medivacs. Nestea expands to 3oclocks natural and Foxer pushes to Nestea's choke where he cuts off some banelings and forces the cancel on the morph. Foxer ahead about 50 food at this point and kills Natural then goes up and snipes his tech structures to get the GG.

Game 3: Scrap Station -> Foxer does a FE build and takes the island expansion and goes for a fast 1/1 marine drop. Nestea goes 14 hatch, and when he scouts the island pulls out a nydus worm and loads up some lings, Foxer manages to hold island with a viking/marine drop and some SCV's, Nestea throws down a baneling nest and a roach warren then makes some roaches and banelings, throws a nydus network and foxers natural which foxer doesn't see and takes the gold at the same time.

After a small wait Nestea baneling busts the bunker part of the wall and manages to kill the stim researching tech lab with sub 5 seconds on stim and kills Foxers army and sits outside his production facilities and forces GG.

Game 4: Jungle Basin -> Foxer does a 2 rax second being a proxy, Nestea senses that and makes a ton of lings and does a 14 hatch. Holds off the the marine push and Foxer contains him in with 2 bunkers while expanding. Foxer goes into Nestea's natural and loses all his marines. Nestea breaks out through the back doors and does a baneling bust that forces Foxer to GG.

Game 5: Steppes of War. Foxer does his trademark double rax creating a choke at his natural's ramp, Foxer goes to scout and sees the 14 pool from Nestea lings chase out the scv and he throws down a roach warren. Foxer then contains Nestea with 2 bunkers. Foxer pokes as ling speed finishes and sees the roaches but gets surrounded and loses most of his 8 marines but manages to take out 3 of the 5 roaches before he is forced to retreat. Foxer then throws down a bunch of rax and some bunkers and a Factory having expanded on his contain.

Nestea expands and gets a baneling nest up and tries to bust Foxer, but siege tanks help hold the wall. Foxer has forced so much unit production that Nestea has only about 30 drones at this point and Foxer has saturated his 2 bases. Foxer slowly extends forward with bunkers and tanks and manages to force the GG as his tanks start hitting Nestea's natural.

Game 6: Xel'Naga Caverns: Foxer opens 1 barracks FE vs Nestea's 14 hatch, once the hatch pops many lings in production. Foxer attacks with 8 marines and loses them once lings pops and pulled a few SCV's to tank but they didn't arrive in time. This turns around to nestea simply rallying lings into Foxers base to win, a few banelings don't do anything significant compared to the lings.

Game 7: Metalopolis: Close position Double rax vs 14 hatch. Pulls half his SCV's into the rush but gets surrounded by a crazy amount of lings/drones. Foxer pulls the rest of his SCVs minus 1 and then tries again but gets surrounded again and there is a spine crawl in the natural of Nestea. Lings stream into the base of Foxer and force a GG. Closing the finals.

My Analysis: Three of the seven games had BoxeR pull an all-in early pressure strat, with SCVs, proxy barracks. It seems like BoxeR excels and likes to win games with micro, which isn't really possible after at mid-game in SC2, I mean you can micro, but you are not really microing as you are likely controlling at least several units at once.

Winning in LT and Steppes is expected of a Terran as both maps are Terran-favored, but losing Jungle basin after a bunker contain seems surprising, since a successful bunker contain puts Terran ahead of a Zerg, a BoxeR constant pressure would keep the zerg from making the drones to properly saturate his bases; I would like to see the replay of that game. Game 6 and 7 it seems NesTea simply adapted to BoxeR's playstyle and made lings instead of playing normally as a zerg: Drone-hard. BoxeR's aggressive playstyle is only possible because most zerg can't wrap their minds around making lings before they make a bralizilion drones, and judging from the recap from Hipsv I would say NesTea simply adjusted and made mass lings to counter the early pressure, if BoxeR had chosen to instead bunker up and play macro the last 2 games, I think the results might have been different. But Kudos and congratulation to NesTea for taking home a good $85k for adapting the all-ins, and BoxeR for taking home $25k from GSL 2!
